Exchange 2013 CU Transport Service Errror

Issue

When applying an Exchange 2013 CU (CU 23), setup fails at Step 9 of 17: Mailbox role: Transport service with the following error.

Error:

CU23TransportError

Resolution

Exchange is using an expired certificate bound to SMTP.

Identity the certificate in question using the Certificates MMC, remove it, and run the CU installer again.
